Nail Your Prom Hair Look With This Glam Half-Up Half-Down Style

Prom season is rapidly approaching, and that means you have a lot of choices to make for your big night. You’ll need a gorgeous gown, of course, and the perfect accessories to go with it– and you’ll also need to pick a hairstyle! 

There are so many great hairdos for prom. You could go with a classic updo, or wear your hair down. You could straighten it or curl it into gentle waves, or tuck it up into a romantic ballet core-inspired style. Natural and protective hairdos look stunning on prom night; there’s really no limit to what you can do with your hair for prom.

Today, we’re sharing a gorgeous hairstyle that’s half up, half down. It’s easy to do yourself and has a soft, dreamy vibe that’s perfect for prom. 

Half-Up Half-Down Prom Hair

Supplies:

• • Paddle brush
  • Hair elastics
  • Bobby pins
  • Hairspray
  • Wide-barreled curling iron
• Optional: topsy tail tool

Instructions:

1. Part your hair in the center.
2. Pull the front third of your hair on the left and right forward and secure it with a hair elastic.
3. Pull the middle third of your hair on the right and left into a high ponytail and secure it with a hair elastic. Brush the sides smooth as you make this ponytail.
4. Lift the ponytail and separate it at your scalp. You will be pulling hair through the center of the ponytail in the next few steps.
5. Pull the length of the ponytail through the separation you made at the bottom. (If this is difficult, use a topsy-tail tool.)
6. Fan out the ponytail to either side, fluffing it as you go.
7. Take the front third of your hair out of the elastic and brush it smooth to the sides of your head. Secure the right and the left side of this section of hair to the sides of your head with bobby pins.
8. Flip the ponytail forwards. Cross the unsecured ends of the front portion of your hair (as if you were starting a braid) behind the ponytail.
9. Flip the ponytail back over the crossed sections of hair. Bring the sections over and cross them in front of the ponytail. Tuck the ends under the ponytail and secure it with bobby pins.
10. Curl your hair to create soft waves. Set with hairspray.
