7 Women-Led Podcasts That You Should Be Listening to in 2019

Whether you’re looking for news, comedy, or a deep dive into Harry Potter, there’s a podcast out there for everyone. What’s less easy to find is one with only female podcast hosts. Even though there’s more diverse and compelling content for women than there was before, podcasting is still a very male-dominated industry–even in 2019. We hope to hear many more female voices and perspectives as this medium grows in popularity (more girl podcasts, please!), but for now, here are seven podcasts run by some seriously smart, funny, and insightful women

1. Call Your Girlfriend: CYG covers pop culture and politics, but at its core, it’s a podcast about friendship. Ann and Aminatou are long-distance besties who keep up with each other over weekly phone calls where they discuss everything from menstrual cycles to personal finance, all while celebrating and embodying Shine Theory.

2. Bad on Paper: Bad on Paper started out of a mutual love for all those Young Adult novels that not-so-young adults didn’t want to admit they were reading. In the past year, Grace (of the popular lifestyle blog The Stripe) and Becca have grown the podcast to include guests, live shows, and general banter that you would expect to have while hanging out with some friends. Don’t worry, though; there’s still a lot of discussion on books.

3. Press Send: Chinae Alexander is the friend we all wish we had IRL. Her honest, positive, and encouraging approach to life’s issues is what’s gained her an online following, and she brings that same openness to her podcast. Each week, she and a guest break down and discuss topics that are important to women.

4. Almost 30: Whether it’s hitting a milestone birthday or switching careers, life transitions can be hard. Krista and Lindsey totally get it and want to help guide you through uncertain times. With relatable stories and inspiring guests, Almost 30 has grown into a community where listeners can share stories and support each other.

5. History Chicks: History has notoriously always been two things: male-oriented and, to many, kind of dull. The History Chicks want to change that, on both counts. Each episode focuses on a female character in history and tells their story in a unique, smart, and conversational way.

6. Girls Gotta Eat: Comedian Ashley and writer Rayna (of the food blog and Instagram account, One Hungry Jew) tackle sex, dating, and relationships in this no holds barred comedy podcast. From sex toys and cheating to open relationships and young love, these two women are asking and answering the questions we’ve ALL wondered about.

7. Hysteria: In the male-dominated world of politics (and political podcasts), Hysteria is a breath of fresh air. Host Erin is joined by a group of diverse, opinionated, and brilliant women as they cover news and politics from a women’s perspective.
