White (and off-white) shoes popped up everywhere a few seasons back–from celebs to our Instagram feed to our favorite outfits. Now, white heels, loafers, ankle booties, and more are officially go-tos for fall. Brighter than basic black and more versatile than a statement color or print, white shoes add a fresh feel to basically any look. That’s especially true as we transition into fall and our instincts tell us to default to darker tones–or at least, they used to.

It’s not just about stark white, either: Creamy, off-white styles look just as effortlessly cool and sophisticated with fall outfits. So how to wear this pale footwear past Labor Day? It’s easier than you think. Instead of reaching for your go-to black or neutral shoes, swap them out for a white (or ivory, cream, bone, ecru…) pair. Whether you’re rocking a rich fall floral, distressed denim, vegan leather, or suede, you’ll find this footwear trend gives you an instant refresh.

If you’re looking to ease into autumn without looking overdressed (the warm weather can linger for a while!), white shoes and booties should be in your closet. To help, we’ve gathered up a few of our favorite pairs–shop them ahead!
