Festival season is officially here, and no matter which concert series you’re headed to, choosing your outfit–or outfits–is of the utmost importance (perhaps second only to the music lineup, let’s be honest). Boho festival outfits have become the style standard, so much so that the look has evolved into its own bonafide fashion category. That said, you don’t want to show up this season in the same old, same old: So give your concert style the 2019 treatment by swapping out the fringe vests and flower crowns for fresh pieces (think highlighter neons, biker shorts, and sports sunglasses). According to the Festival Fashion 2019 report from global fashion search platform Lyst (they analyzed search spikes and compared the online shopping behavior of more than 5 million shoppers per month), these are the trends the online crowds are going wild for.
1. Sequins
Get ready to shine. Searches for “sequin bikinis” have climbed 76% over the last month, and searches for “metallic swimwear” and men’s sequin festival pieces have spiked, as well, meaning this festival season promises to be a sparkly one. If you’re after a shimmery look you can get more mileage out of, try a sequin mini dress: This festive frock goes from night to day when paired with combat boots and a
layered necklace.
2. Biker Shorts
The Kardashian-approved cycling shorts trend is showing surprising staying power, as searches for “biker shorts” have soared 47% since last month. Shoppers are hunting down everything from neon biker shorts to rainbow biker shorts, but if you’re not quite ready to take the look to that level yet, a solid black pair is an easy-to-style option.
3. Shell Jewelry
Beachy baubles are currently making a major splash (sorry). According to Lyst, shell jewelry queries are up 44% month on month, with “shell earrings” the most common search term. No matter where you’re headed this festival season, this dangly pair will bring the vacay vibes.
4. Chunky Sandals
The chunky “Dad” footwear trend refuses to quit. Views of chunky sporty sandals are up 31% from the previous year so expect to see comfy, bulked-up styles like this all over the 2019 festival scene.
5. Neon
You might have noticed that everything old is new again–including all things fluorescent. Searches for
neon swimsuits, bodysuits, biker shorts, and more–in neon yellow and lime green, especially–have been climbing this year, with a 113% increase since early March. A polo mini dress in an electric hue is an unexpected, on-trend choice for the 2019 festival season.
6. Cowboy Boots
Go west(ern) this festival season. Cowboy boots are currently seeing a 37% search surge over the previous month, meaning you’ll want to have this trend on your radar–and in your closet. (Bonus points if you opt for an edgy snakeskin-print pair.)
7. Sports Sunglasses
In stark contrast to the wiry ’90s-inspired tiny sunglasses that took over last year, the current must-have shades are futuristic, face-shielding, and ultra-sporty. Get instantly fierce and festival-ready in a matte black square-shaped pair with a thick brow bar.
8. Tie-Dye
Tie-dye was
everywhere during
Spring 2019 Fashion Month, and naturally, the Woodstock-inspired, hippie-chick trend is seeing a spike as festival season approaches. Fashion searches for tie-dye pieces have increased 88% since early January, and we only expect those to climb as the weather heats up. Our laid-back festival footwear favorite? Easy, go-anywhere (literally) tie-dye slide sandals.
