Introducing the @joandkemp x Lulus Edit! We’ve partnered with longtime Lulus babe, Kemper Baugh, to bring you our first-ever influencer capsule. Kemper has been a Lulus Ambassador since 2015 and embodies the Lulus style, which is why we’re so excited to share her curated collection of on-trend fall styles.

Lulus: Tell us about yourself! Where are you from and how did you start as an influencer?

Kemper Baugh: I am from West Monroe, Louisiana which is a small town in the south. I was born and raised here, and this is definitely the place I love to call home. While I love getting to travel and see the world, it’s really nice to come back home to family, friends, and a slow pace of life. 

In 2014, one of my friends told me I should start a fashion blog. I didn’t know what that was, so Jo and I started to research and check out some of the what I like to call “OGs” of the industry. We started posting outfits to our Instagram, tagging brands and reaching out to some, as well. It’s so crazy to look back now at where we started. We worked really hard and we are really grateful to be where we are now–and for all of those who supported us along the way.

Lulus: This is your first brand edit. Congratulations! It’s a big milestone. What made you choose Lulus for this opportunity?

KB: Thank you so much. I’m actually tearing up a little reading these words and the reality of the situation. This has definitely always been a dream of ours and it’s so crazy that it’s now happening. We have always LOVED the brand. Lulus has such versatile pieces and that’s something that I value in my wardrobe.

Lulus: Before this, you’ve been a long-time fan and ambassador of the brand. What keeps you coming back to Lulus? 

KB: Absolutely! I have honestly adored Lulus pieces ever since I entered the fashion world. I love that you guys always adapt to the times and keep up with new trends in the most practical, affordable way. Lulus was also actually one of the very first brands that we worked with not long after we started being influencers, so it makes this collection extra special and dear to our hearts!

Lulus: How do you describe your style? 

KB: If I had to describe my style in a few words, I would say comfy, casual, practical, and relatable. I want the things I wear to be achievable for my audience–I want to always be able to point them to the things I share and love. I try not to put myself in a box, as there are so many different styles and types of looks that I love. Some people have that one vibe that they kinda stick with and that’s really cool because it works for them. But that’s the beauty of fashion: I like to stay open and really dress to my moods and what I’m loving at the moment. 

Lulus: So how did you select pieces for the @joandkemp x Lulus Edit?

KB: I love neutrals for fall and winter, but I also wanted to include a few colors, as well. Knits and cardigans are some of my go-to’s. Versatility is really important; I wanted to curate pieces that could be worn to a business meeting, out with friends, or to hang at the park.  I wanted items that weren’t limited to just one specific occasion. Comfort and quality are really important to me, as well, and these pieces are definitely both!

Lulus: They certainly are! Do you have a favorite piece from the edit?

KB: Don’t make me do this (laughs)! I truly love them all. I’m not sure I can pick just one, but the crop turtleneck sweaters, the green backless top, the distressed jeans, and the over-the-knee boots are some of my faves!

Lulus: What’s your favorite fashion hack or go-to outfit formula?

KB: I think my favorite fashion hack is cropping tops that aren’t already cropped. Sometimes it just looks more flattering, so with some sweatshirts and sweaters, I will flip them under and tuck them into my bra to give them more of a cropped vibe.

Lulus: Clever! How would you say your style evolved over the years?

KB: Oh, goodness! I definitely cringe a bit when I go back and look at old photos and outfit choices! But, I guess, who doesn’t? I think I’ve continued to learn what styles are most flattering to my body type and have also developed a love for looser-fitting jeans. 

Lulus: What’s your earliest fashion memory?

KB: My stepmom actually opened up a clothing boutique in our hometown when I was 14. She let me do photoshoots and model in fashion shows. I really think that played a big role in where I am today.

Lulus: So if you could raid anyone’s wardrobe who would it be?

KB: Hailey Bieber, no doubt. I see so many things that she wears that I love so much. I feel that her style is very diversified and I love that. 

Lulus: Yesss. OK, finish the sentence: In five years, I’d like to____.

KB: Start a family. Jo and I always talk about kids and bringing them into our world–we are really excited to do that soon!

Lulus: What trend are you most excited to wear this winter?

KB: Bright colors are in for the season, so I’m excited to incorporate those into my winter wardrobe–also, leather. I love leather blazers and skirts so I’ll definitely be wearing those, as well!

Lulus: We love all of that–do you have any tips for how to find and define your personal style?

KB: I think it’s just all about wearing what makes you feel confident and comfortable. I often hear people say “I could never pull this or that off” and I’m always like you totally can! It’s all about how you wear things. Wear what you love with confidence and you’ll rock it.
