For example, Ole Miss and the University of Alabama are known for the size and scope of their sorority recruitment, while sororities like the Divine Nine have unique traditions that set them apart.
So how do you know what to wear? First, check out your school’s official sorority and Greek life websites. Most schools have an official Greek life website that provides detailed information about the rush process, including dress code guidelines.
But the official websites are going to be more informational than inspirational. To really get a good handle on what you should be wearing, follow the sororities you’re interested in on social media. Keep jewelry minimal and refined—after all, you want them to remember your charm, not just your statement necklace. And yes, re-wearing your shoes is totally fair game (and totally chic).

Here, you’ll learn about sororities, meet recruitment counselors who can help you through the process, and decide if Greek life sounds right for you. Info sessions or meet-and-greet events are the beginning of the membership intake proces… so naturally, that begs the question: What do you wear?
Overall, you’ll want to look casual but polished, and always like you. Nice jeans, pants, or a midi skirt, a blouse or knit top, and comfy shoes like ballet flats or low heels are all no-fail options that are both cute and relaxed. You don’t want to look like you just rolled out of bed; you want the sororities to see that you’re taking them seriously. Once you’ve confirmed you want to participate in sorority life, then it’s on to rush!
Round 1: Open House
Open House is typically the most relaxed part of rush, and in some cases, it’s even gone hybrid or fully virtual. That said, first impressions still matter. Think sundresses, flowy skirts, or polished jeans with a cute top—effortless but intentional. Skip the micro-minis in favor of pieces that feel stylish and respectful of the occasion. At the same time, this isn’t a dance; floor-length gowns will likely feel out of place. Also: unless your sororities tell you otherwise, steer clear of white for pref night!
