How to Wear It: The Hair Scarf Trend

Published by

We are pleased to welcome the latest trend in hair accessories – the hair scarf!  This is an effortless way to elevate the simplest hairstyle.  Thanks to this new trend, your low bun, classic ponytail or half-up, half-down hairstyle will look even prettier and have an eye-catching look.  It is the perfect addition to complete any look from your desk to date night.  Below, we have styled three looks to get you inspired!

Voluminous Pony:

Your basic pony just got an upgrade! Fold a scarf (a bandanna or any lightweight scarf will work) until it is about two inches wide and the edges look neat. Loop it under your pony and tie a basic knot on top of the hair elastic. Do this once more to get a square knot on top of your ponytail. Adjust the ends of your scarf and fluff your ponytail with some light finger teasing to get an undone but totally chic finished look! Another option: Go for a scarf ponytail holder!

Low Messy Bun:

Sometimes you just need to toss your hair in a messy bun and go – but adding a hair scarf is a two-second trick to take your easiest hairstyle into a totally chic look (bonus points: it hides second…or third or fourth…day hair). Make a casual, low bun at the nape of your neck, pulling out some baby hairs and shorter pieces along your hairline to frame your face. Fold a bandana or scarf along the diagonal until it is about two inches wide. Putting the folded side toward your hair (so the top lies smooth against your head), put the scarf along your crown and over the tops of your ears to make a headband. Tie underneath your bun with a simple knot and secure with bobby pins if needed.

Half Up / Half Down:

For a boho-chic style that looks like it took a lot of effort, this half up / half down style is our go-to for sprucing up wavy curls. Brush back a small section of hair from the crown of your head to create a loose, looped pony. Be sure to leave out shorter layers to frame your face and keep some longer pieces out over your ears to keep the look flow-y. Using a long, skinny scarf, create a headband on the top of your head, tucking it under the hair in the ponytail, as well as some of the longer pieces over your ears to cover the rest of the scarf. Tie into a knot under your ponytail or bun and let the ends blend with the half-down portion of your hair. Secure with bobby pins if needed.
