Like its classic, sun-hat-and-linen-pant-wearing anthesis, the Barbiecore fashion trend stems from a movie–Greta Gerwig’s 2023 film starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling. But that’s pretty much where the similarities end for these two looks. Far from the neutral, understated Nancy Meyers aesthetic, Barbiecore is bold, hyper-feminine in the traditional sense of the word, and all about hot pink everything.

Just a scroll through Pinterest, Instagram, or TikTok will show how Mattel’s most famous plastic doll/fashion icon–and her signature shade–have infiltrated the style zeitgeist.
