Summer is right around the corner, and that means it’s time to start swimsuit shopping. Finding your perfect bathing suit isn’t always easy but with more options to choose from than ever, we’re pretty sure there’s a stylish suit, or several, that will fit your vibe–and your bod.
Over the years, like all fashion, swimsuits have evolved with the times. Where women were once required to cover up from head to toe, now we enjoy all sorts of sartorial freedom when it comes to our water wardrobes. So rather than stress about bathing-suit shopping, take a minute to appreciate how far we’ve come with a look back at the history of swimsuits. To give you some perspective, a little fashion education, and a whole bunch of swim-spiration, check out this fun video roundup, courtesy of Harper’s Bazaar!
Will you try to bring any of these styles back, or should some of them stay in the fashion vault forever? Tell us in the comments– and shop more swim here!

teh 40s halter suit is super cute!
I wonder if anyone else noticed that the less covering the swimwear, the skinnier the models…funny how that perception has changed with the fashions too
Bring them all back, a girl can never have to many swimsuits.
I love the swim skirts of the 50s and notice they’re back in style. They’re really precious.

In the sweltering summer of 1943, for over worked Rosie the Riveter the romancew of the beach beckoned. Like today she struggled to find just the right swimsuit. I love love love the 40’s halter super cute. Also love the very 1st picture I believe is Marilyn Monroe in a cute dress like bathing suit. Also have 2 agree about the kardashian sisters suits those suits are Super sexy especially If u have curves and aren’t super skinny like a pole. Eww that’s just nasty no one wants to see every bone in your body plus most men like a woman with real boobs and an ass… bigger & rounder the ass the better as for boobs guys don’t care as long as you have something for them to hold I was told by lots I’d guys at least a handful .. now back 2 bathing suits please don’t bring back the 30’s or the rules no more than 6inches above the knee also DO NOT BRING BACK THE 80’S UGLY BATHING SUITS!!! That’s my opinion. Girls DON’T STARVE yourselves to be model skinny BC most guys think its nasty on a real fuel and we are real girls not super anorexic/bulimic skinny to where they look sick and are about to die. Guys don’t want to watch a girl barely eat anything. They want something to grab during bedroom time something to help help you go the way he wants you to!!!just saying… @:-)
Add a comment…check out love luana vintage swimwear. New classic style back with a twist.
I think the last picture on this page is accually pretty cute!!! I sure d like my bikinis but I wouldn’t mind wearing those!!!
I like the bathing suits of the 30s. I have looked into them. I like them the most. But I agree with Luana, the models did get skinner as the swimsuits became more revealing. I really don’t like how things have changed.
Where is the swimsuit that Elizabeth Taylor wore in a movie. It was Black with gold one piece been looking for it for a while. THAT swimsuit was cute!
the only sexy look to me is the 80 and 90 the low cut gidget bikini cut is boring and a bonner killer for me a high cut looks like a big smile while a low cut is a frumpy frowny face crap!
I bought myself a couple of pinup swimsuits and love wearing them! They make my torso look shorter and bring out my pear-shaped figure.
I went over this site and I conceive you have a lot of wonderful information, bookmarked . deecgdeddgeb
Thanks so much! Enjoy!
Thanks a lot
I actually like the 30’s and 90’s suits myself. They were CUTE!!!

the 1950s and 2000s were the only ones that caught my eye. i don’t understand why the other time periods saw fashion in the horrific bathing suits. history should stay in history.

I’m glad some one put this together as I thought it would be interesting to see the changes over the years. How ever, I do wish they had been side by side according to the years in succession, but still….thanks!
