The best look for you is one that flatters your body type.
How many times have you fallen in love with a dress, only to find that it alters your proportions in a maybe-not-so-good way? Throughout the years, ladies, I have decided that there are some looks I will just not do, and others that make shopping at a glance totally doable.
Since the subject is wonderfully vast, I’ve decided to break it up into a few parts. Today we will explore Pears and Rectangles.
1. Pear-Shaped: If you have a pear-shaped figure, then you are bigger on the bottom than the top. Your curves tend to appear below your natural waistline, and you may have an average to smaller bust.
Looks for you include full skirts, dresses belted at the natural waistline, fitted tops, and you can usually get away with strapless dresses. You’ll want to accentuate your thinner waist, and you can boost your bust line with a few ruffles or a paneled bust.
Skirts for the Pear-Shaped Figure
Paired with that cute little bustier on the left, that swishing full skirt will put your hips and thighs comfortably in their place.
Dresses for the Pear-Shaped Figure
BB Dakota by Jack makes a lot of cute dresses with full skirts, like this strapless dress on the right.
2. The Rectangle: If you have a rectangle-shaped figure, then you are less curvy, with a straighter torso and less defined waist.
The flappers of the twenties were experts at showing off this body type with dropped waistlines and straight shift dresses. If you want to look a little curvier, try a surplice or overlapping bodice, or a top that flares at the waistline.
Tops for the Rectangle-Shaped Figure
The oversized fit in the upper half of these tops cinches in at the waist to create a nice hourglass shape.
Dresses for the Rectangle-Shaped Figure
These straight dresses will give you that cute flapper look that works great when you have narrow hips. Own it sisters!
These two dresses cinch in at the waist and have swooping panels of fabric that create the illusion of curves.
What’s your body shape?
Let me know what shape you are and I will include you in Part 2!!!!

I used to be a rectangle, no curves at all, straight as a stick! Now I have a little bit more hips, and I actually have somewhat of a chest, but no waist still.I have never had a waist lol.I like to wear a v-neck,or scoop neck tops to show off my little bit of cleavage.Push up bra a must :))
But-I do not know what to wear on the bottom half most of the time.A lot of jeans are cut to low in the waist, and they fall down, even with a belt I am always pulling them up! I do not like anything high waisted though, I need to find a middle ground I guess ๐
What about hourglass shapes? Everybody seems to pass over us and I can guarantee we don’t look good in just anything.
i have a pretty straight up and down body so i like to wear a line skirts to make my hips look bigger ๐
xo, zebra and meerkat.
I think I’m an apple… those extra pounds always come on my belly first… boohoo… off to the gym now! ๐

Thank you for all of your comments, it’s so nice to hear all of your tips. Check back next week for “The Apple and the Hourglass”!!
Thanks! I’m definitely a pear shaped, and I always feel certain skirts just add to making my “assets” look even bigger! I always have trouble proportioning!
I’m a rectangle. My bust, waist and hip measurements are all pretty close. I found actually that wearing tight dresses with a wide belt is pretty flattering, althought I have to adjust the belt all night to make sure it’s covering my rolls.
