Have a party to attend this summer? Are you bringing the drinks?
Well, why not bring them chilled in style?
Enter the…
Rosebud Ice Cubes
You could probably pay a small fortune for these pretties, but why would you do that when you can make them yourself?!
Ingredients
- Ice Cube Trays (any will work, but the deeper the tray, the more room you have for your flowers
- Small Rose Buds or Other Small Flowers
(You can get these at the store, or even from your house as long as they are washed and pesticide-free. Another alternative is to use fake flowers from a craft store. These can be reused and still look great, as long as you don’t mind having a fake flower floating in your drink when the ice melts.)
Directions
- Boil enough water to fill a tray for two minutes. Let it cool to room temperature.
- Put rose buds in the ice cube trays, top of flower facing down.
- Fill ice cube trays half way with water. Freeze.
- Once they’re frozen, fill the rest of the tray with more cooled, boiled water and freeze again.
- Ta-da! Keep frozen until you’re ready to display them!
- If you want to use the cubes in your drinks instead of just to cool a bottle of champagne, try using the kind of liquid you’ll actually be drinking. Consider freezing white wine, punch, iced tea, or even sprite, depending on the occasion.
- Instead of flowers, add fruit or herbs! Blackberries, raspberries, orange or lime slices, strawberries, and blueberries would all be delicious, and a mint cube would be the perfect touch with a mojito!
- Try shaped ice cube trays. There are a plethora of different kinds at craft stores, or probably even at a local thrift store.
- For large gatherings, weddings, or parties, go all out and use a Bundt pan or other uniquely-shaped pan in which to freeze the flowers or fruit. Perfect for a punch bowl! For kids birthdays themed soirée, use a fun shaped cake pan that is freezer-safe!
- Create your own signature drink. My favorite? Freeze ice cubes with basil and add to chilled green tea with a sprig of lavender and a slice of cucumber. So refreshing!
