It’s officially the time of year for healthy everything, but who says healthy eating has to be boring? I love making a berry smoothie with yogurt for breakfast–or a snack year-round. And one of the best things about smoothies is that they’re so easily customizable to your own tastes.
If you have browning bananas, throw those in! Don’t have any strawberries? Leave those out. Take a peek through your fruit drawer and freezer to see what you have on hand.
Adding things like chia seeds and flax seeds add an extra nutrition boost, but they’re certainly optional. If you do make smoothies often, as I do, I recommend keeping those on hand in our pantry so you’ll always be able to add a spoonful to your smoothies. You can also use your favorite protein powder, but again, that’s optional! (I personally like the Vital Proteins one because it’s the only one I’ve ever tried that is truly tasteless).
If you want to keep the smoothie vegan, use agave or any vegan sweetener you love instead of honey, and use non-dairy milk and yogurt. See? It’s a super-flexible, choose-your-own-adventure smoothie–I’ve just given you a simple blueprint to help you along the way!
Scroll on for the complete recipe. I hope you enjoy your smoothies, and remember: Say no to boring health foods!
