With only five ingredients, this fun winter spin on a traditional Moscow Mule is light and incredibly easy to make. In other words, it’s a nice way to switch things up from heavy holiday comfort foods that might keep you in the kitchen longer than usual this season!

High-quality ginger beer is the key to this recipe. It’s lightly spiced and warming, which makes it the perfect compliment to the vodka and lime. I recommend not swapping it for ginger ale, and also using freshly squeezed lime juice and fresh mint; this will take your drinks to the next level. Leaving the mint as a garnish instead of muddling it keeps this recipe low-maintenance while bringing in that refreshing aroma.

To turn a Winter Mule into a mocktail, simply swap out the vodka for a plain or lime-flavored sparkling water. You can also leave this ingredient out altogether.

As for tools and equipment, a cocktail shaker isn’t necessary  for this recipe, just a shot glass. For reference, a shot glass is typically 1.5 ounces, and if you don’t have a shot glass, you can also measure 3 tablespoons of liquid.

While mules are usually served in copper mugs, they aren’t necessary and don’t affect the flavor of the drink in any way. High ball glasses also work nicely. Happy sipping–and Happy Holidays!
