There’s not much we love more at Lulus than celebrating and empowering women–on International Women’s Day and every other day. Today, we’re thrilled to announce our partnership with Girls Who Code, supporting their mission to close the gender gap in technology and to change the image of what a programmer looks like and does.
Lulus will be sponsoring 60 female or non-binary high school students, rising 10th thru 12th graders, in a 2-week immersive summer camp. The GWC Summer Immersion Program gives students a unique blend of computer science, sisterhood, and exposure to careers in technology, all for free. That includes a laptop for them to keep! Pretty great, right? We think so, too.
What’s more: Over half of the girls served by Girls Who Code programs–450,000 globally–are Black, Latinx, or from low-income households, and over half are from historically underrepresented groups. By bridging the inequities of educational access and opportunity, Girls Who Code is building the largest pipeline of future female engineers anywhere in the world. Heck. Yes.
The virtual summer program doesn’t just teach these aspiring tech leaders how to code, either. In addition to participating in real-world projects using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, camp attendees will get an inside look at the world of tech careers via workshops and guest speakers, not to mention a healthy dose of sisterhood. We are thrilled to be on this journey with them.
Learning in a supportive, girls-first environment kindles lifelong friendships and helps develop these kids into brave, risk-taking, empowered adults. Say it with us now: Go Girls!
