For 30 years, Lulus has helped women dress for life’s most meaningful moments, from first dates and graduations to homecoming dances, proms, weddings, career milestones, and everything in between. While finding the perfect outfit is important, what matters most is how it makes you feel. We believe every woman deserves to feel confident, beautiful, and like the best version of herself as she celebrates the moments that shape her life.
That’s why we’re proud to support initiatives that help make those moments more accessible. On September 20, the Allentown Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated hosted A Night to Shine: Homecoming and Fall Formal Pop-Up Boutique in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Transforming a space provided by local organization Change on Hamilton, volunteers and organizers created a shopping experience where students and community members could browse and select formalwear at no cost.
With donated dresses, shoes, handbags, and accessories all from Lulus, guests preparing for homecoming, college formals, weddings, galas, and other milestone occasions were invited to shop in a boutique-style environment designed to make them feel celebrated, supported, and empowered.
More Than a Dress Giveaway
From the moment guests arrived, volunteers created an experience that felt special: Dresses were organized by color, accessories were thoughtfully displayed, and fitting areas allowed attendees to shop at their own pace with guidance and encouragement from volunteers. The goal: to help ease the financial burden that often comes with attending important events, while also providing a space where every guest could feel confident and excited about what’s ahead.
The response from the community was overwhelming. Thanks to outreach through schools, community partners, social media, family networks, and bilingual communications, women and students came from near and far to find a look for life’s special moments. By the end of the event, 89 attendees had shopped the boutique and 371 items had found new homes, including:
- 234 dresses
- 32 pairs of shoes
- 28 purses and clutches
- 55 accessories
- 22 additional items
A Dress 23 Years in the Making
While every guest’s experience was meaningful, one story stood out.
A mother traveled from York, Pennsylvania, with her daughter to attend the boutique. She and her husband have been married for 23 years and are raising seven children together. When they originally married, they eloped and never had the opportunity to celebrate with family and friends. She also never got the chance to wear a wedding dress.
Now preparing to renew their vows in the same place where they were first married, this time surrounded by loved ones, she discovered the wedding dress she had always dreamed of wearing. For the first time in more than two decades, she was able to see herself as a bride.
Moments like these are a powerful reminder that what we do is about so much more than fashion. As we like to say, it’s never just about the outfit–it’s about what happened in it.
The Power of Community
Events like A Night to Shine are only possible through collaboration. The Allentown Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, Change on Hamilton, volunteers, donors, and community partners worked together to transport inventory, organize merchandise, assist shoppers, and bring the boutique experience to life. We’re honored that Lulus could play a small role in supporting this incredible initiative and are grateful to the organizers and volunteers who dedicated their time to making the day such a success.
