Hair accessories for women made a triumphant return several seasons back and well, they don’t show any signs of slowing down anytime soon. There’s really no wrong time for extras like hair clips, headbands, and hair scarves–they’re the easy way to dress up even the simplest hairstyle.

In summer, you’re more likely to wear your hair up–at least some of the time. So for days when it’s just too hot to let your locks flow, or you’re trying to camouflage unwashed hair, a stylish and cleverly-placed accessory is your instant bestie. From braids to twists to half-up looks, check out a few of my favorite ways to accessorize your hair this season.

Clipped French Braid:

Instructions:

Step 1: Section out your hair around a center part.

Step 2: Pull the top third into a small clip in the back.

Step 3: Grab the next third and secure that section about an inch lower with a matching clip.

Step 4: Braid the remaining hair into a basic three-strand braid and secure with a clear elastic.

Claw Clip French Twist:

Instructions:

Step 1: Pull all of the hair into a high ponytail.

Step 2: Tie a long scarf around the hair tie (do a triangle fold before feeding through to get the most length).

Step 3: Section the hair of the ponytail into two and create a rope braid with half of the scarf in each section.

Step 4: Secure at the end and tie the scarf around the elastic.
