There are so many reasons to wear an elegant hairstyle. Perhaps it’s prom season, or you have a special event like a wedding–heck, maybe you just want to look nice for work! If you’re looking for something simple, lovely, and oh-so-elegant, look no further. This low braided bun is the perfect hairstyle for your special occasion, whether it’s your best friend’s wedding or a romantic evening out.

An elegant low braided bun is so easy to achieve. You only need to know a few basic techniques: how to do a three-strand braid and a rope braid. Once you’ve done that, you just need to wrap the hair around itself to create a bun. These basic techniques are beginner-friendly, so this is a great style to practice with.

This is a great technique for second-day hair, where there’s a little bit more texture than hair fresh out of the shower. You can also use dry shampoo or spray to create more texture and make your face-framing pieces more dynamic.
The braided bun is highly customizable, too. You can add hair clips, barrettes, combs, or embellished hair pins to add some extra flair to the bun. If you’re using this as a prom or bridesmaid hairstyle, adding flowers to match your corsage or bouquet is an elegant addition that makes the whole look cohesive. You can also try matching your hair accessories to your jewelry for a polished and put-together look. Scroll on to see exactly how to get the look!
Low Braided Bun:
Supplies
- Clear hair elastics
- Paddle brush
- Bobby pins
- Hair accessories– think barrettes, hair combs, or whatever you like!
Instructions
Step 1. Brush and pull your hair into a low ponytail and secure it with a hair elastic. Leave out face-framing pieces.
Step 2. Divide the ponytail in half and create a three-strand braid with one half. Secure with a clear elastic.
Step 3. Create a rope braid using the two halves. To create the rope braid, take the unbraided half in one hand and twist the length so that it looks like a rope. Then, twist the twisted strand and the three-strand braid around each other. Secure the rope braid with a clear hair elastic.
Step 4. Wrap the hair into a loose bun and secure it with bobby pins from the perimeter.
Step 5. Add hair accessories and adjust face-framing pieces, tucking some behind the ears and leaving a few out.
And that’s it! With just a few simple steps, you have created a beautiful, elegant low braided bun that looks perfectly polished.
