affordable holiday decor - shop for christmas decorations on a budget

Getting in the holiday spirit doesn’t just mean checking gifts off your shopping list and watching Hallmark movies – but of course, those do help. No, the season doesn’t ever feel like it’s fully arrived until you’ve dressed up your home with festive holiday decor. (Hello? There’s literally a whole song dedicated to decking the halls.) And while we do have a soft spot for the snowman figurines, Santa dish towels, and other cheesy trinkets our Nanas put out every year,  we’re kind of feeling a more modern, stylish look for our own digs. Lucky for us, holiday decorations have come a mighty long way – and the getting is currently very good for chic holiday home adornments that fit every vibe, from boho to modern to glam. Ahead, we’ve put together a list of our go-to decor destinations so get ready to celebrate in style.

Target: When it comes to holiday decor, the mega-retailer does not mess around (case in point: you can shop decorations for any major holiday of the year on the site right now). For Christmas, Chanukah, and New Year’s specifically, there’s a delightfully varied assortment that actually has personality. The Wondershop in particular lets you shop by vibe, so whether you’re into the bohemian eclectic thing or modern farmhouse style, you can score decorations that work for the look you’re going for.

Cost Plus World Market: From rustic wreaths and garlands to mercury glass votives and cheeky cute cards (“Happy Llamakkah”), this affordable site is one of our faves for styling lifestyle shoots. Understated and unexpectedly chic, it’s guaranteed to get you in a festive mood.

CB2: If you’re the sleek, modern type, you’re going to want to take a gander at what this decor destination has to offer for the holiday season. The palette is super sophisticated with lots of white, black, gold, and silver – but it’s never stuffy. Go for a clean look with minimalist tree table sculptures and have a little fun with items like a gold corgi snow globe and a silver disco ball snowman.

PBteen: Pottery Barn’s less expensive younger sister has a slew of cute and crafty holiday decorations. Items like a metallic fringe garland and sequin letters that spell “Peace” feel fun and fresh, and we’re particularly fond of the faux fur Christmas stockings (leopard, please and thank you).

Etsy: What’s great about the small business seller’s mecca is how there is something for everybody. Tons of unique handmade items are available to outfit your home that you won’t find anywhere else. That includes dog bone-shaped Christmas stockings (we may or may not have purchased), a silver T-Rex menorah, felt wool garlands in the shape of candies and peppermints, and cheeky pieces like a wire word tree topper that spells out “Star!” Genius.
