After being cooped up last year and deprived of all the best Halloween activities, I think we can all agree that we’re itching to do something spooky this October. And while the current guidelines might still be a little tricky to navigate, this fall holiday is super fun because there’s something to do no matter what the vibe is. Whether you’re staying in this year and enjoying some scary thrills on your couch, or organizing a get-together with your closest friends, Lulus has your back when it comes to good Halloween fun.

Scroll on for creative ways to keep things spooky even if you’re staying home this year!

At-Home Halloween Ideas:

  1. Spooktacular Movie Marathon: Nothing says Halloween like a terrifying movie marathon. Grab the family or a hot date, make some festive treats, and get ready to get in the Halloween spirit. With movies like Hocus Pocus, Beetlejuice, Ghostbusters, and The Shining, you’ll either get a lot of screams or a lot of laughs out of your movie marathon.
  2. Go ALL OUT and Decorate Your House: Regardless of your current situation, it’s never a bad idea to decorate your house from top to bottom. Think more is more. Tons of pumpkins, cobwebs, 12-foot-tall skeletons, bats, witches; the possibilities are endless. How can you not get in the Halloween spirit?
  3. Scavenger Hunt for Candy: For a family-friendly activity, hide candy in unexpected places all throughout your house or yard for your little ones to find. If you’re having an adult scavenger hunt, try mixing alcohol nips in with the candy to get the party started.
  4. Make Festive Foods: This can be done alone, with a hot date, or with some of your closest friends. A pumpkin carved and vomiting guacamole? Disgusting and delicious, all at the same time. Dirt dessert cups? Adorably edible!
  5. Carve Pumpkins: This classic October event never goes out of style. You’re never too old to get your creative skills flowing through some pumpkin carving; plus, it’s a fun way to pass the time. Set a theme and see if your friends can out-carve you!
  6. Halloween Pinata: Fill it with candy for your kids–or nips for adults!
  7. ‘One Way’ Trick-or-Treating: For a super safe way to collect candy, try setting up a table at the end of your driveway with pre-packaged bags of candy for kids to grab.
  8. Make a Spooky Cocktail: This could get scary, but have a ghoulish tasting at home! Have everyone who is 21+ in your household make different cocktails and see who makes the best Halloween libation.

Cute Halloween Date-Night (or Girls Night) Ideas:

  1. Drive-In Movie Theater: When you want to venture out into the chilly October night, but aren’t into sitting in a crowded theater, a drive-in movie date is a perfect alternative. Grab some blankets and your favorite snacks, and cuddle up in your car next to your boo or best girlfriends.
  2. Outdoor Haunted House: In the wake of 2020, tons of haunted houses have chosen to take their scares outdoors to create a safer space for thrill-seekers. They’re still just as scary and sure to send a chill down your spine–but that might just be from the cold weather (be sure to bring a cute coat).
  3. Pumpkin Picking: If you’re not one to venture out after the sun sets, throw on your cutest weekend afternoon outfit, down some brunch with your besties, and head out to your local pumpkin patch. Just don’t get lost in the corn maze!
  4. Stroll Around the Neighborhood: Every other house in the neighborhood is sure to have decorations up. Grab your largest cozy sweater, a thermos filled with coffee (or wine), and your favorite walking shoes. Take some time to admire all of the fun, scary decorations, and have your friends vote on their favorite!
  5. Host a Seance: For some spooky good fun, consider hosting your own seance. Purchase your own Oujia board, pour some wine, and get ready to ask your ancestors all of your pressing questions.
