DIY flower wall backdrop and flower wall hanging decor

Flower walls as a backdrop for photo booths or venue decor have been taking over in the wedding world for a while now (thank you, Kim and Kanye). Whether you’re scrolling through your Insta feed or perusing Pinterest, this fun floral trend is kind of impossible to miss. But why limit the fun to weddings only? A pretty petal-filled wall makes the perfect background for a Galentine’s Day photo shoot with your ladies–and, when done with faux flowers, it’s the ultra-feminine update you didn’t know your living space needed.

You don’t necessarily need a Kardashian-level budget or a professional set designer to make this happen, either. For a DIY flower wall backdrop worthy of any Pinterest board, follow our instructions ahead. Note: Our version uses real roses but for a longer-lasting look, faux flowers are an option. Fresh roses (or other real flowers) will cost more and need to be purchased no more than a day in advance to ensure they’re in top DIY flower wall form!

Supplies:

  • Foamcore board (ours was 4′ x 8′, with 4′ x 4′ covered in flowers)
  • Fishing line or thin string
  • Safety pin or thumbtack
  • Tape
  • Long stem roses, real or faux (we recommend around four dozen for a 4′ x 4′ square)

Instructions:

1. Lay out the roses where you want them on the foamcore.
2. Poke a hole through the board with a safety pin or thumbtack where you want the flower to sit. The hole should be at the base of the bloom where the flower meets the stem.
3. Thread both ends of a piece of fishing line or string through the hole so there’s a loop on front of the board and the two ends of the fishing line on the back.
4. Slide the stem of the rose through the loop so that the base of the bloom is secured by the loop and pull the ends of the fishing line taught.
5. Tape or tie the fishing line on the back of the board and repeat.
