The imminent arrival of prom time has got us waxing nostalgic here at Lulus. Prom season is fast approaching and across the country, scores of teens are gearing up for their own red-carpet moments by shopping for dresses and tuxedos, and browsing everything from hair inspo to limo rental prices. It’s a high school milestone that often goes by in the blink of an eye, but the memories–and the photographs–last a lifetime. (Posing with your date on a friend’s lawn or your parents’ driveway while a gaggle of excited adults snap photos is basically a rite of passage, after all.) The excitement, the drama, and of course, the fashion of the big night may be further in the past for some of us than others, but there’s nothing like a good old walk down memory lane to show just how far we’ve all come since high school. So in the spirit of the impending season, Lulus staffers are sharing their own throwback prom photos and memories. Oh, what a time we had.
Rebecca Rickards: “I got the dress at Gottschalks in the Chico Mall for under $50.”
Daniel Diaz: “Where is [the] time machine?! #2008”
Kalen Daniel: “She fell in a puddle getting out of my truck on the way, and started crying. Quick to make a snap decision, I got out of my truck and dove in that same puddle and rolled around in it like I meant business, completely drenching my suit. She stopped crying and started laughing hysterically.”
Daniel Rickards: “Can you ever have too many prom dates??”
Sonia Ayala: “I didn’t think that the first dress I tried on would be the one! I saw this dress and loved it, but it was the first one I saw so I didn’t think it would be ‘the one.’ The moment I tried it on though I couldn’t imagine going to prom in any other dress.”
Michaela Sundholm: “Junior prom! The zebra print dress with a sequin neckline: iconic. [And] the deepest side bangs ever, of course.”
Brandi Camarena: “ I wore white to my senior prom! I also added red accents to complete the look that I wanted!”
Danielle Wells: “Circa 2006!”
Rachel Aschenbrand-Robinson: “I really thought prom was my Oscar moment so I had a dress made. It was supposed to be a copy of a lilac gown Elizabeth Hurley had worn but when i went to the fitting 3 days before prom, the dress was a hot mess (that’s being kind). My mom took off work the next day to take me to hunt for a new dress. I ended up with this ombre burnout slip dress that I loved, complete with clear plastic shoes and a satin purse–an ensemble that’s actually surprisingly 2019 now that I look at it!”
