The COVID-19 pandemic may have forever changed the way we look at weddings. We’ve become so used to larger gatherings of 100 or more people at our loved ones’ weddings that the sudden shift in guest count came as somewhat of a shock. Brides and grooms that chose to move forward with their small weddings were faced with the tough decision of severely limiting their guest lists to only close friends and family.

But in the months since the newfound “micro wedding” trend, many newly engaged couples were able to see the beauty and merit of having such an intimate gathering. And the reasoning went beyond simply not wanting to deal with the outlandish opinions of bossy relatives.

There’s a lot of beauty in a small wedding and it certainly shouldn’t go overlooked. This unexpected trend may have changed the way we see weddings, but it also introduced a new approach to the old tradition. If you’re newly engaged and still sussing out your options, there are quite a few advantages of a micro wedding to consider.

1. You Save Money

It’s no secret that weddings can get pricey. And the more people that attend your wedding, the more expensive the final bill will be. Large weddings call for larger venues, and each guest has a charge for their plate. Factor in the cocktail hour, the bar situation, and the transportation to and from the venue–you get the picture.

With a small, intimate wedding, you’re saving a ton of money. You can book a smaller venue, spend less on everyone’s plates, and even use your own phone for music, since the small crowd doesn’t require a loud DJ. Plus, with all the money you’re saving, you can put it towards those splurge items that you’re dying to have at your wedding. Like your favorite wine or the perfect meal–or, hello, your dream dress

2. A Small Wedding is More Intimate

A small wedding means that you can truly spend the entire day focusing on what weddings are supposed to be about–the love that you share between you and your partner. With a smaller gathering, you likely won’t be bogged down by the last-minute things that a large wedding would have. You won’t have to worry about perfecting elaborate floral arrangements, tracking down your great uncle’s dinner order, or dealing with a last-minute addition to the guest list (aka your cousin’s girlfriend that he’s been dating for three months).

The intimacy of a small wedding gives you the opportunity to express your love and commitment to your partner in front of your closest friends and family. It allows you to focus on them and them only, and establish a loving and intimate relationship from the very first moment of your marriage.

3. You’ll Have More Venue Options

Fewer people means more options for your venue. Since it will be a smaller crowd, you could host your nuptials nearly anywhere without fear of exceeding capacity. A micro wedding also opens up the possibility of more out-of-the-box venues, like your favorite local park, or your best friend’s backyard

4. You Can Coordinate More Details

A small gathering of friends and family allows you to coordinate everything, including your guests. It’s becoming more and more popular to ask your guests to coordinate with the wedding colors as a result of 2020’s micro weddings. This adds a fun and unique element to your wedding and makes for an incredible photo-worthy event.

With a small wedding, you can coordinate every single piece of your wedding to your liking. It’s less likely that you’ll have to cut corners because of cost or overlook a few details because of your time constraint. Every corner of your wedding can be filled with personal touches that make it your own special day.

5. You Can Spend Quality Time With Everyone

Weddings with over 100 people can be tricky when it comes to spending time with everyone. It’s a traditional courtesy to float around to each table during dinner, but sometimes that’s where the contact ends.

With a micro-wedding, you’ll get the opportunity to have longer, engaging conversations with everyone in attendance. Since you’ve probably spent a lot of time determining the final guest list, everyone at your wedding is someone that is close to your heart. You will love that extra quality time that is spent with them on one of the biggest moments of your life.
