‘Tis the season to be enjoying the last glimmers of summer, while also looking forward to all the fantastic flavors of fall–and that includes fall drinks! This cocktail combines the best of both seasons: Blackberries are a distinctly summer fruit, while figs and vanilla rum signal that fall is just around the corner. Plus, as ready as we fall fanatics may be for the weather to cool off, we are typically not graced with cooler temperatures right away. So, a chilled cocktail is exactly what we all need while waiting for true autumn to arrive!

This cocktail is also perfect for special occasions and events, as it’s both flavorful and lovely to look at. Hosting a bridal shower or rehearsal dinner (hello, fall wedding season)? Make the Blackberry Fig Rum & Soda your party’s signature sip. It’s so simple: Just muddle your chopped figs and blackberries together with a bit of sugar and vanilla rum. Vanilla rum is incredibly smooth and delicious, but you can add a splash of regular vanilla if you can’t find vanilla rum near you. Strain the drink, pressing all those beautiful fruit juices out of your figs and blackberries, and finish it off with ice and club soda.

  • PREP TIME: 15 MINS
  • SERVES: 2
  • Blackberry cocktail
  • fall cocktails
  • fall drinks alcoholic
  • bridal shower drinks

Ingredients

  • 6 medium to large figs, roughly chopped
  • 10 medium to large blackberries
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 4 ounces vanilla Rum
  • Club soda, for topping
  • Ice, for shaking and serving
  • Fresh thyme, for garnish

Directions

Step 1:

Add the figs and blackberries to a large glass measuring cup (2 or 4 cups), or to a cocktail shaker.

Step 2:

Add the sugar and rum, and muddle the fruit with a wooden spoon to release the fruit juices.

Step 3:

If using a cocktail shaker, add plenty of ice, shake well, and then strain through a strainer into two glasses. Make sure to push all the juices out of the fruit pieces and through the strainer, using a spatula. Discard the fruit skins.

Step 4:

If not using a cocktail shaker, add ice to your glasses, and strain the mixture between the two glasses.

Step 5:

Top with club soda, and garnish with a sprig of fresh thyme. Enjoy!
