Ice pops are the perfect way to stay cool on hot summer days, but you don’t need to be a kid to enjoy these timeless frozen treats. Boozy popsicles, also known as poptails, are the latest craze to hit the culinary world, thanks to a recent influx of the alcohol-infused goodies at major retailers like Costco and Walmart.

“It seems to get hotter and hotter every summer, so the need to be refreshed is key,” says Felicia Chavez, a bartender and mixologist in Orange County, Calif. “Nothing beats an ice-cold drink, so adding some nostalgia makes it that much better. The great thing about these drinks is that they are relatively spill-proof, so they’re perfect for picnics or out by the pool.”

To make your own healthy poptails at home, Chavez recommends investing in a few essential kitchen tools first. “A blender is probably the most helpful in this situation,” she says. “But, if you decide to use any puréed fruits, you can always have a strainer or sieve on hand as well. For pouring into your molds, you may also want to have a measuring cup and funnel for less mess.”

“Making them yourself ensures that you have control over the quality of ingredients,” says Chavez. “We all know how important it is to be aware of what we’re putting in our bodies, so using homemade products is always a plus. Once you’ve learned how to make a great boozy popsicle, you’ll be able to wow your friends at your next pool party!”

Here, Chavez shares three of her favorite boozy popsicle recipes to help you chill out through the rest of the summer!
