Too loose in waist but tight in hips

Better on model
I had high hopes for this dress, I wanted it as a staple piece for my fall/winter wardrobe. It looks beautiful on the model. It is stretchy and soft, a little thicker than t-shirt material. My dress size is typically a 6/8, and the stripes on this dress make me look very wide. I expected that since it's a dress with horizontal stripes, but it had a stronger effect than I anticipated.
