terrazzo nail trend 2020
Terrazzo is widely used in home décor, from counters to flooring to vases, and the wide variety of ways it can be interpreted makes it one of the most fun 2020 nail trends. While it looks complicated, this nail art design is so easy to recreate, and the imperfections are what make it look even better.
2020 nail trends: white terrazzo
Terrazzo has chips of marble, glass, or other materials bound by concrete, so for this design, we recreate those chips with different colors that can be mixed and matched in a ton of different ways. If you want to try your hand at the terrazzo trend, here’s what you’ll need!

Terrazzo Nail Trend 2020

Supplies:

  • Base coat
  • Light base color
  • 4-5 different polish shades
  • Dotting tool or brush
  • Top coat
  • Matte top coat

Instructions:

1. Prep your nails and apply a base coat.
2. Next, apply your light base color to all your nails. Because it has a cool speckled effect that plays well into the terrazzo design, I went with Hatch from Cirque Colors, but any lighter shade will do!
3. Next, pick out 4-5 different nail polish shades that will be used for your small abstract spots. Try to stick with a cohesive color palette. For mine, I went with neutral earthy tones but you can do shades of pink and red, or mix in different pops of color! I used an earthy greenish-yellow, rust, peach, pale pink, and white.
4. Starting with the rust color (I like to work darkest to light), place 2-3 small abstract shapes using your dotting tool (can be a toothpick, brush–anything with a smaller point at the end). I like to start with an initial dot and wiggle the edges slightly outwards to give the shape a more organic look. Also, place 1-2 tiny dots randomly around the nail in the same shade. For these shapes, less is more! You can always go back in later if you need to fill in space, but you don’t want it to look too crowded.
5. Repeat the previous step, working from darkest to lightest shade. I like to use the lightest shades as highlights to add more dimension where it’s needed.
6. Once the design is dry, top with a regular top coat. This is just to give a nice even finish so when you apply your matte top coat everything looks smooth.
7. Lastly, apply your matte top coat!
