Want to hydrate and tone your skin, reduce cellulite and stretch marks, and feel energized all with one beauty product? Keep reading! Our DIY coconut coffee scrub cubes are not only super easy to make, but you probably already have the ingredients in your kitchen! Use this exfoliating scrub on your skin in the morning and you might even get an extra boost of energy!
With two stretch mark and cellulite-fighting ingredients, the powerful combination of coconut oil and coffee grounds is great for your skin and smells heavenly, too! Coffee is not only packed with antioxidants making it anti-aging and detoxifying, it is a natural astringent that (temporarily) makes your skin tighter and firmer. Coconut oil is one of our favorite beauty products because of its many amazing benefits (read more about it here) and has tons of Vitamin E, which is the ultimate anti-aging vitamin. It is a great moisturizer that delays wrinkles and sagging, plus its antibacterial properties help prevent breakouts!
What You’ll Need:
- 1/2 cup coconut oil (We like Dr. Bronner’s Magic All-One Organic Virgin Coconut Oil)
- 1/4 – 1/2 cup freshly ground coffee beans depending on how much you want to exfoliate (you can use your leftover morning grounds)
- Ice cube tray or mini muffin tin (regular size muffin tin will work)
Directions:
- Microwave your coconut oil briefly to soften
- Combine coffee grounds and coconut oil, stir well
- Pour mixture into ice cube tray or muffin tin
- Place in the freezer until cubes are hardened
- Pop your cubes out and store in an airtight container in the fridge/freezer
- Several hours before using, take a cube out and let it soften to room temperature
Double or triple your batch and have great homemade presents to give to friends and family for Christmas!

Don’t coffee grounds clog up the sink or tub???
Dawn, we suggest using finely ground coffee grounds if possible, but another option would be to apply the scrub and wipe off with a wash cloth before showering.
Even if the grounds aren’t brewed, do they work as well?
Faith, freshly ground unused beans are recommended, but used grounds will work as well!
i made this today…using your measurements but mine are a very dark brown
I just made these las using your measurements…and they are almost black!
Did I do something wrong?
Judging by the picture, I’m thinking she meant 1/2c beans which makes it 1tbsp ground. Maybe?
Sorry for the confusion here everyone! We modified the ingredients to reflect a range of 1-4 cup to 1/2 cup coffee grounds; however, you can absolutely use more or less depending on your personal preference!
Do they have to be stored in the fridge or freezer? If you are gift wrapping them for a present, will there be a possibility of them melting?
We recommend these being chilled in the refrigerator before gifting, but since it’s cooler this time of year, they can stand a few hours while being transported. Hope that helps!
just a warning… these will go mouldy in about a week if you keep them at room temperature (and my room is really cold!). so maybe not so suitable for care packages or gifting. but the scrub is divine, especially with virgin coconut oil – smells so good and leaves your skin so soft! if you don’t drink coffee at home, you can get the grounds for free from starbucks.
Can you put it on your face as well? Or is that not good for your skin?
Lucy, we think these will be fine to use on the face. If you have sensitive skin however, it would be probably best to consult the advice of a professional before using.
Haha mine are black! How are yours so pretty and white????
Savannah, try altering the amount of grounds to achieve a darker or lighter scrub!
I made these today with coconut oil from aldi’s which is cold pressed, I melted it in the microwave and added the coffee grounds, put them in the freezer to harden, then took them out after they hardened, they’ve been sitting out for several hours and they are still extremely hard, is there something I can add to soften them?
Caitlin, unfortunately we have only made this scrub with the ingredients provided. Maybe try bagging the scrubs and submerging in warm water for a couple seconds.
I was trying this out for the first time and I didn’t use silicon or flexible molds and I am having problems poping them out
Allison, try letting them soften at room temperature for a bit and see if that helps!
Does instant coffe work that’s all I have?
Jo, unfortunately we have only tried this out with fresh grounds. Instant coffee may not create the proper consistency. Let us know if they do end up working for you if you give it a try!
How should you use this on your face ? Because i wanted to make some for my mom from wrinkles and all ))
Lily, these would be great to use on the face! Just let soften a bit, rub into the skin like a face wash, then rinse!
Hello! I’ve included these in a COFFEE inspired DIYs blog post 🙂

Are you suppose to use this in the shower ? Is it a face scrub ?
Hi Nikki! Yes in the shower, and it’s intended for use all over the body, but is definitely safe for the face as well.
Hi guys, just wanted to say even if they are solid, take in shower with you and just rub over your body, they slowly start dissolving, no need to melt beforehand.
Do I use brewed coffee grounds or unbrewed coffee grounds?
We prefer freshly ground coffee beans, but you can use your leftover morning grounds.
Sounds perfect, will definitely try it. Thanks
Thank you for the recipe! What if you try adding an organic preservative like Leucidal (beetroot) Liquid? Do you think this may aid in extending the “shelf life” (so to speak)? Also, how many does this recipe yield? Thank you so much!
Hi, I am not a coffee drinker by any means, but my mother in law is. Is it possible to store her coffee grounds so I can save them to make very large batches, how would I go about storing them.
Can I also store the scrub cubes in the freezer, and for how long?
What would you call a scrub like this that addresses cellulite and stretch marks? Ideas please.
Hi my name is Tami can you just leave it in the jar
Can’t you just make it up and leave it in a small mason jar
I was just wondering how long it keeps for?
If you don’t drink coffee at home, you can get the grounds for free from starbucks.
impossible game
