New Year’s resolutions are notoriously hard to keep, but that doesn’t stop many of us from making them every year. Setting intentions is an important part of life–the key is to be gentle with yourself when you veer off the path a little (or a lot). With next year fast approaching, we reached out to some of the most inspiring, successful, badass women we know to hear what they’re looking to manifest in 2020. What we found? New year goals that were less about losing weight (eye roll) and more about self-care, family, being present, and lifting up others. Yes, queens.
If you need a little inspiration when setting your new year goals, scroll on. We think these ladies have the right idea–and might give you some 2020 ideas of your own.

Erin Ryser, Hair and Makeup Artist
“I always set personal and professional resolutions in the new year, and it’s really spurred my business forward. In 2020, one of my primary goals is to invest in a generous way (above and beyond my usual comfort level) into my team, and others outside my team who need a hand up. I’m grateful for those who have helped me along the way, and rather than getting caught up in the drive inside me to get ahead, I genuinely want to pull others up and along with me. Investing in others will grow and strengthen all involved, including me.”
Bola Sokunbi, Founder, Clever Girl Finance
“In 2020 my goal is to manifest a higher level of self-care and mental well-being. As CEO, wife, and mom to twins, my life can get pretty hectic. My goal is to put my well-being first so I can be the best CEO to my team, wife to my husband, and mother to my children that I can be. When I put self-care and mental well-being first, everything falls into place.”
Kristen Maxwell Cooper Editor-in-Chief, The Knot
“My New Year’s resolution is to limit my use of one-time plastics. I’ll be purchasing another Yeti water bottle for work—I already have one for home—as well as opt for reusable silicone baggies and glass Tupperware. It’s not hard, it just requires a change in mindset and habits.”

Jessica D’Argenio Waller, Clinical Nutritionist and Health and Wellness Writer/Editor
“I like to choose a theme for my year, rather than a straight-up resolution, and this year I’m going with sustainability. An annual theme is ideal because it applies to all aspects of my life—from trying to reduce my carbon footprint by eating more plant-based, to making sure my workload is sustainable in relation to my stress levels. I have a tendency to take on too many projects at once, so in 2020, I’ll try to stop and ask myself “Is this sustainable?” before moving ahead. To help remind myself, I’ve designed a pretty illustration with my 2020 theme word to save as my phone’s lock screen (so it’ll always be top-of-mind!).”
Hang Nguyen, Celebrity Nail Artist
“I’d like to manifest more traveling time and creating memorable moments with my little family. I’d also like to get more serious with meditation and going to retreats to meet a supportive spiritual and empowering group of people to inspire and motivate me. Overall I’d just like to manifest more self-love, and love and kindness for others, so I can be at my topmost game enjoying all the abundance the universe offers.”
Brie Masjiak, Paige More, and Alli Brudner, Co-Founders, The Breasties
“We have a shared resolution as an organization: collaboration over competition. [Our new year goal is to work] with more organizations, companies, and businesses to spread awareness and create an inclusive community of support for all young women impacted by cancer.”

Stephanie Simmons, Food Photographer and Recipe Developer, Blue Bowl
“My new year goal is to take care of myself and enjoy the everyday moments and magic in life by doing less. Life can’t be fully enjoyed & lived when we’re constantly doing more, more, more. In fact, that’s what causes stress for me and sucks up all my time and energy. When I reflect on 2019, the moments that shine brightly in my mind are the ones in which I relaxed, slowed down, and set aside my phone/work/to-do list. Here’s to doing less in the new year!”
Mazz Hanna, Celebrity Metaphysical Manicurist, Certified Crystal Healer, and Founder, Mazz Hanna skincare
“For me, 2020 is the year of perfect vision. I’m manifesting an enhanced ability to stay laser-focused on growing my business, and sticking to the strategic plan that I put into place.”
Lydia Fenet, Author and Managing Director and Global Head of Strategic Partnerships, Christie’s
“In 2020, I want to be fully present in each moment so that I can truly relish every minute with my family and friends. I want to take my children on a trip to a far-flung location that shows them a different culture and way of life. In my work life, I want to write The Most Powerful Girl in the Room is You and get a TV/film deal for The Most Powerful Woman in the Room is You. I also want to continue growing the Strategic Partnerships department at Christie’s and continue raising money for nonprofits around the world.”

Cassandre Banel, Nail Artist and Beauty Photographer
“In 2020 I’d like to be mindful of two things: going to bed/waking up early, to help my mornings become a little more relaxing and less rushed. I also plan to splurge on using a cleaning service to deep clean my home a few times a year–it’s worth it to me!”
Katrina Xavier, Founder, Embrace Your Alpha
“My 2020 manifestations are simple: to command time, health and success. I will do this by implementing self-love practice, an alkaline diet, as well as KPI’s to adhere to for my tangible business goals, as well as daily intention setting. And finally, to be present for loved ones. I want them to know that there is nowhere else I’d rather be.”
Rachel Jo Silver, Founder, LoveStoriesTV
“This year I want to read more! My biggest challenge is not having the next book picked out before I finish the one I’m on. Often I’ll finish a book I love which will remind me of how much I love finding time to read every day, but then I don’t have a new book to start so weeks or months (eek!) will go by before I find another book I want to read. Right now I’m reading the new Margaret Atwood book “The Testaments” which is a sequel to “The Handmaids Tale” and it’s SO GOOD. DM me book recos pls! (@racheljosilver)”

I only have one goal: live. I didn’t nothing else but work in 2019. In 2020 I will do everything to manage life and work more efficiently and evaluate my priorities.
