I normally would wear a medium/large. I sized up in this skirt, thinking it might be snug. Nope, it's true to size, so I exchanged for a large. It fits really well and is comfortable also! The slit is high. It's beautiful with boots! You don't need a belt, but it adds to your ensemble. Very nice and good quality. It was just what I was looking for!
